  1. Thanks Christine for this. I’ve posted the following on Globe and Mail commentary to their “Time to Lead” article “What Canada stands to gain from the global coal boom”

We stand to lose much more than we could gain. What’s the exit strategy to migrate away from potentially catastrophic continuation of burning of fossil fuels, causing global warming and worldwide climate change. We may hit a “tipping point” leading to unstoppable runaway damage.

Sustainable energy technology exists now and can be deployed with minimal economic disruption and lasting benefit, overcoming the $trillions annually in North America of “social cost” externalities which are not reflected in the price of fossil fuels even though they are a real cost but foisted on all of worldwide rather than the companies and consumers who produce and use the fuels, of which coal is the worst.

I urge you to watch this 20-minute presentation by Naomi Klein titled “Addicted to Risk” at http://350orbust.wordpress.com/2011/09/15/7056/

    • Thanks, Alan, for sharing the link and also for continuing the good fight. I read a quote yesterday that “A hero is a person who is doing everything they can.” In my books, that makes you a hero!

ps have you tuned into the “Climate Reality” livestreaming – it’s fascinating and very informative, and still on until 7:00 p.m. tonight.
