Celebrating Winter

After all of the politicking and game-playing in Durban last week at the U.N. climate negotiations while both the suffering of poorer nations and the scientific evidence were ignored in favour of the status quo, I think it’s time to remember and celebrate what we do have. At the same time, I am reminded of what’s at stake in this battle between corporate interests and our children’s future.  Here’s what winter looks like in my part of the world these days:

This year the freeze-up of the lake has been unusually smooth, and there has been uncharacteristically little snow so far. This means that the whole lake is a skating rink:
