  1. Thanks for this, Christine. You will have to forgive me if I have said this before but this reminds me of one of my favourite passages from the Psalms:
    “As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field…” (Psalm 103:13-15)

    I am a firm believer in the principle that ‘All truth is God’s truth’ and therefore, as a scientist, I am afraid I cannot accept that the vast majority of scientists have been deceived by anybody or anything. Thus it was that this passage came to have great significance to me when, over 25 years ago now, I was first taught that everything found on Earth with a molecular weight greater than that of iron was produced in the explosions of dying stars (i.e. supernovae).

    However, whereas the words in this passage from the Psalms can be explained away, how on earth can one explain this Serbian proverb without reference to modern knowlegde? Its prescience seems truly remarkable.
